Cats Are Better Than Dogs
I am definitely in the minority here on the Resch team. This place is chock-full of dog lovers. But this blog is my only platform and I will use it however I see fit.
I recently spent a week dogsitting for my parents so I have recent, qualitative data to back up my claim.
Let’s meet our characters
Mabel Buell-Becsey (Bean, Mabelline, Bean Girl)
4 years old
Street Cat
10 lbs
Sign: Taurus
Hobbies: sleeping, cuddling, being perfect
Giovanni Buell (Gio, GG, Boy)
6 years old
Golden Retriever
95 lbs
Sign: Pisces
Hobbies: whining for attention, eating things he shouldn’t, going on walks
The barking
I know this isn’t the case for all dogs, but Gio barks all the time. Sometimes at nothing. Sometimes at kids on bikes. Sometimes at moms with strollers. Never at an actual threat. Dogs are annoying! Cats are quiet. I’ve never had to mute a zoom call for a cat.
The stink
Dogs smell. Bad. Absolutely nothing smells worse than a wet dog. And what’s going on with their breath? It’s like something died in there. They’re also always breathing with their mouths open. Dislike.
Cats clean themselves. Self cleaning! What can be better?!
The poop
This is a big one. I’m sorry but I don’t want to pick up still-warm and squishy dung with only a thin plastic bag between my skin and the poop. I don’t think that’s a groundbreaking complaint.
I get that people don’t like the litter box either, but I would recommend just getting yourself a Joe. Then he’ll handle all of that for you.
The guilt
This is the biggest one for me! Every time I’d go to leave the house, Gio would look at me like I just murdered his best friend. The puppy dog eyes! I don’t like how the dog relies on me to be able to go to the bathroom. I feel so bad any time I have to go somewhere!
And if you know me then you know I like to leave my house. A lot. Guilt-free.
Mabel loves me and wants to hang with me when I’m home but she couldn’t care less if I have to leave for awhile. She’s a girl that likes her alone time.
The walking
I don’t want to walk the dog. The dog has to stop and sniff/pee on everything. The dog is yanking on his leash. But if you don’t walk the dog then he’s going stir crazy and bothering you 24/7. It’s a lose-lose.
If I want to go on a walk, I want to go by myself and at my own pace.
Cats can get their exercise in the house and on their own. I love a self sufficient queen.
The cost
Every dog I’ve ever met seems to have a very niche (and very expensive) health problem.
Diabetic, missing one eye, and blind.
Multiple anal glands have burst and the vet can’t figure out why.
Allergic to literally EVERYTHING.
Insane separation anxiety. When left alone, the dog makes it out onto the roof. Prozac prescription.
These are all real ailments from the dogs of my close family and friends. Now think about people’s cats. They’re all just chillin. I’m saving thousands of dollars a year by owning a cat instead of a dog. Mic drop.
