‘Tis the d*mn season, write this down

At my ripe old age of 27, I’ve learned that there really isn’t all that much to look forward to on a day-to-day basis. That might seem pessimistic but I mean, c’mon… life is basically just a never ending cycle of work and cleaning the kitchen, right?

To try to combat this never-ending monotony, I’ve been attempting to really lean into every season. Plus, we’re lucky to be able to have every season here in Michigan, so we might as well enjoy it.

How you’ll find me during the ‘ber months

If you know me at all then you probably know that I like to read (it’s basically my only hobby). I am definitely a mood reader, and what I want to read depends on the season. Beachy rom-coms in the summer, spooky thrillers in the fall… you get the idea.

So even though the fall weather has taken a little extra time to show up in these parts, I’ve got my TBR (To Be Read) locked and loaded. A mug of tea, fall candle, cozy blanket and my kindle HATE to see me coming.

Books on MY fall TBR:

  • Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas (I am currently in a book club working through the Throne of Glass series, so this is an obligatory pick but also goes along with the fall vibes.)

  • Shady Hollow by Juneau Black (I was influenced by one of my favorite booktokers on this one… a murder mystery but all of the characters are woodland creatures? Say less.)

  • The Man Who Died Twice by Richard Osman (This is the second installment of the Thursday Murder Club Mysteries — also looking forward to watching the movie adaptation of the first book, now available on Netflix. A bunch of old folks living in a retirement home solving murders. Very entertaining.)

  • One Dark Window and Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig (A fantasy duology that has been recommended to me multiple times as a person that doesn’t really like fantasy all that much.)

  • If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio (VERY excited for this one.)

  • Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman (Picked this one out at the Charlevoix Public Library’s summer book sale, knowing it would be perfect for spooky season.)

  • You, Again by Kate Goldbeck (I know nothing about this book but the cover just SCREAMS fall.)

Those are just what I’m hoping to tackle this season. It definitely seems ambitious, especially since I am also entering crunch time for planning this little ol’ thing called my wedding, but we’ll see what I can do.

If I have succeeded in convincing you to do some mood reading this fall, here are some books that I think you should check out. And if you don’t like them, please don’t tell me because I love each of these books very much.

Books that I think you should put on YOUR fall TBR:

  • The Secret History by Donna Tarte (This one will be considered a classic one day. Definitely in my top five favorite books, and the perfect thing to read on a chilly, overcast day.)

  • The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna (Found family, heartwarming, witches… what more could you want?)

  • Beyond the Wand by Tom Felton (This is just for my Harry Potter fans out there. If you’re anything like me, you feel the need to rewatch all of the HP movies as soon as the first leaf falls. Plus, I love a memoir.)

  • The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab (Read this one awhile ago but it’s a 10/10.)

  • Verity by Colleen Hoover (This is probably the only CoHo rec you’ll ever see me making, but I do think this is her best book.)
